Blue Bell Rotarian Polly Beckham developed a new idea for a service project for Blue Bell Rotary Club, and like all good Rotarians she has pursued her new idea to fruition.

Polly believed that the students at Montgomery County Community College, whose main campus is right here in Blue Bell, could benefit from the resume preparation and job interviewing skills of BBRC members, many of whom have conducted tens or even hundreds of job interviews.  Working closely with Nina Mattson, MCCC’s Coordinator of Career Services, Polly developed a program in which MCCC students and alumni could conduct filmed mock interviews with 2 or 3 BBRC members, and receive valuable feedback and suggestions for improving their resumes and their interview skills.

BBRC and MCCC have recently begun implementing this program, and were delighted to see that the very first person they assisted with a mock interview gained employment a very short time thereafter.  As with many Rotary service projects, the relationship with MCCC has already started to grow beyond Polly’s original idea.  On April 16, 2014, Polly and 6 other Blue Bell Rotarians have assisted MCCC with its annual spring job fair, which normally draws over 400 job seekers.  In Fact, Polly, Tom Wynn, Rik Lundell, Rita Steidle, Joanne Messerschmidt, Bruce Dearnley and Russ Bellavance will provide the bulk of the manpower needed at the event, doing everything from assisting employer setup and registering the interviewees to providing last minute advice on resumes and job interviewing.  So thanks to Polly for an excellent, and very timely, new vocational service project.
