Our club breakfast meeting of January 19th seemed extra special, perhaps because of our many honored guest. They included our newest friend Attorney Kent Conway, our old friend Rich Meyers, Lisa Miller's brother Warren Miller, former member Frank Cymbala, Exchange students Raphaellle and Annelie, Cherubim Vedomey our newest member, Dr. Mike Seidner our next Assistant District Governor, and our honored guest speaker for the morning Dr. Eugene Richardson of the Tuskegee Airmen.
The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African-American military aviators in the United States Armed Forces. Unfortunately many black Americans were still subject to discrimination laws as the American military was still racially segregated. But against these additional obstacles of racial friction, the Tuskegee Airmen excelled and became a major contributor to our freedom today. On March 7, 2007 President George W. Bush awarded the Tuskegee Airmen with Congressional Gold Medal which is the United States' highest expression of appreciation for distinguished achievements and contributions, and a recognition for an achievement that has impact on American History and Culture. We were starstruck and honored as our guest speaker was an authenic member of the distinguished and decorated Tuskegee Airmen. It was 2nd Lieutenant Dr. Eugene J. Richardson, Jr. Dr. Richardson brought us a powerful message of the bravery, courage, determination, and the mental training, necessary in combat. We salute Dr. Richardson, like all of our U.S. Military personal, for fighting against the odds, and putting their lives on the line for county.
