The VTT is funded through an $81,000 Global Grant of the Rotary Foundation. Our district joins with D-7450 and 7500 in our region with D-9211 in Uganda to fund the project along with the Rotary Clubs of Churchville-Huntington Valley, Emmaus and North Penn to make this Year 1 grant possible. The Rotary Club of Kampala North in Uganda is the host Rotary Club and will organize local accommodations as the VTT-Drexel members visit, lecture and visit health centers in Uganda to teach best practices in emergency obstetrics and neonatology to improve childbirth and early child outcomes.

PDG Governor Ron Smith of the Blue Bell club will depart on January 24, 2014 with 8 faculty from Drexel University’s College of Medicine, College of Nursing & Healthcare Professionals and the College of Computing and Informatics with the goal to set up a distance education network for healthcare professionals in Maternal & Child Healthcare in Uganda. The team will initially spend time at Makerere University’s College of Health Sciences to plan the educational priorities and prepare for visits to four health centers to assess needs and conduct health camps in these centers near Kampala. They will conclude their visit and return on February 14, 2014.

In April 2014 a VTT from Makerere University will visit Drexel University and health centers in our areas as part of the development of a sustainable Maternal and Child Healthcare Education Network to provide courses via distance education, e-leaning curriculum in obstetrics, gynecology, and pediatrics.
